This is one of many commercials that I have recently been working on. I have been working as a freelance Production Assistant since February in Vancouver working on such commercials as Tim Hortons, Kokanee, Telus, Westjet, BMW, Campbell's Soup and more.

This commercial was very interesting to work on and know all the secrets that happened before post production although I can not say. It's great getting to work on set and I hope I can progress and move up from PA'ing.

Vivian Maier

These are a small number of street photos by Vivian Maier. Vivian was an American born French lady who moved back to America in the early 50's. She worked as a live in nanny for 40 years but had a passion for photography. It is said that she took around 100, 000 photos from around the world but mostly from her adopted town of Chicago.

Her street art portraits are stunning plus extremely charismatic and to think her work was completely unknown until after her death. The mostly undeveloped films where found in 2007 by a local historian. I strongly suggest any one to check out some of her photos they are a brilliant slice of history and really capture the moment of their creation.

Lynn Canyon

These pictures were taken at Lynn Canyon which is about a 40min bus and boat ride away from my house. Its a really pretty place with hikes that start off by crossing a cool suspension bridge about 40ft above the ground.

The water is all glacial run off and is amazingly clear and clean, especially when you are used to rivers in London. These pictures are from when the winter season was changing into the spring so most snow and ice had left but some still remained. Which made for interesting hiking conditions as it was warm in the sun and cold in the shade. Im sure I'll be going here again.

Niagara Falls in Winter

These are a few photos from my recent trip to Niagara Falls ( On the Canadian side ). I am very glad that I stopped off to see them and seeing them in winter defiantly brings a different look to them then most postcards will show.

Also the countryside surprised me with the amount of vineyards dotted around, some of which make ice wine. If you havent tried it then you should.

Martin Schoeller

Martin Schoeller is a photographer based in New York, his style has become famous for using very similar treatments of all his subjects regardless of fame or wealth. I also really like the almost bleak honest feeling you get from his photos which allows you to see blemishes and scars, its as if the subjects are as over exposed as the image its self.

This is the estate agents in Leytonstone, London that I have been working at for the past two years. I worked as a letting agent where I would look after a large client and landlord archive and facilitate their relocation or tenant finding needs.

Whilst this was my main role I also became the company photographer and took video inventories, mainly due to my pervious interest in these subjects.

The photography side for marketing purposes I found to be pretty important as this created an important aspect to the overall standard of the company. It was quiet tricky at times as London apartments and house do not tend to be very big, so one of the main jobs was to make a place look more spacious without out just full on lying about it. I also had to try and make the place look clean, bright, warm and welcoming as to attract as many potential high quality tenants as possible.

I got very lucky when finding this job as the company was very nice to work for because they had a good work ethic and a high sense of moral responsibility, which I guess is why they have lasted for over 20 years. I left after two years to move to Canada and hopefully find some more work in the creative industry fingers crossed.

These are some of my first real attempts to play with slow syncing. I wanted to keep the natural colour of the night lights but I didnt really have the opportunity to keep the shutter open for long periods of times. Plus the initial flash capture the snow flakes really well.

Kabenhavn - Calsberg Worker

This friendly chap can be found in the Calsberg beer brewery just on the outskirts of Copenhagen.

I tried to play about with the view point in these photos, to see what feeling showing more of the scene brings and if its different from showing less of the scene i.e. close up.

Kabenhavn - Statues

Copenhagen is a city with a lot of statues and a lot of history. Here are a selection of them, I especially like the picture third from the top as it creates a good sense of movement and emotion, plus the snow covers certain parts of it so your not quiet sure where the snake begins and the horse ends.

It was difficult to deal with the grey sky i had to try hard to get some definition to make it more interesting. Also I did not want to photoshop them to much so adding a completely different sky is not something I wanted to do.

These are the first few shots from my new compact ( Lumix TZ10 ). It done a pretty good job as the lighting was difficult and I had it full zoomed ( 12x ). Plus it was a pretty cool set from Carl Barat at Scala.

Perseid ( Meteor Storm ) - Big Dipper

There was a meteorite storm predicted to hit England so I decided to go check it out. I drove out of London to escape the light pollution and found a field to watch the storm.

The storm was great lots of different colour shooting stars and not much waiting time in-between them. I tried to take some photos but I was very under equipped and did some research after and found out that you need to have a camera that moves slightly to capture the stars.

So the only photo that worked at all was this one of the Big Dipper.

Ben Nevis - The Climb

These photos document my climb up to the top of Ben Nevis all 4406 feet of it. It took me 1 hour and 47 minutes to get to the peak where I along with some friends enjoyed a bottle of Champaign. We got up pretty quick even thou some spots we very steep and had a loose rocky surface, however the journey back down seemed to be a lot harder.

The journey down took about 2 and a half hours and I now have maximum respect for anyone that can do the three peak challenge because my legs were so tired.

The weather completely changed on the climb a lot, base camp was fairly clear and sunny but half way up it becomes very wet, not because of rain but because you enter a large mist cloud. Once in the cloud visibility gets much worse, which gets worse and worse the higher you go. At the top visibility and humidity levels make it had to see far at all, so the views are not great expect every now and again you come across a huge gully one of which is called the five fingers of death.

Ben Nevis - Base Camp

This is the view from our base camp before we made the assent to the top of Ben Nevis which is the tallest peak in the British Isles. The sun breaks throw the clouds periodically which creates very dramatic effects with light and shadows on the hills, plus the clouds creep down from the the peaks creating an eire mist.

Loch Ness

Took a walk along Loch Ness and found a jetty that shot out into the Loch which is were I got this snaps, sadly no monsters were found but it did have a brilliant restaurant.

Distillery

Glenfinnan Viaduct / Harry Potter Bridge

The top picture is of the bridge that appeared most famously in the Harry Potter films as he traveled to and from Hogwarts. The second is a picture of a statue that was on top of a tall pillar which I scaled the inside of overlooking a huge Loch.

Ben Nevis - War Memorial

This is a war memorial about a 15 minute drive outside of Fort William in Scotland. I traveled there with a friend who had spent some time in the armed forces and knew some of the people that were being remembered at this site, which made for some interesting stories.

The surrounding countryside was very pretty in a typically Scotish way with lots of rolling hills and miles of green fields and tree lines. The monument it self stands boldly alone with no other defining features around it, from the road the soldiers have their backs to you staring into the hills in the distance maybe searching for their fallen friends.

Silhouettes

These photos where taken one night with a few friends sitting around next to the ponds having a little jam on the guitar. I really tried to use the city lights in the background to create a multi tonal display from very light at the center to dark round the edges.

With Silhouette work shapes are the most important aspect so I tried to keep them simple and defined, so in the first photo you can clearly make out a human figure looking up at the tree line or in the second to last photo it is easy to see the shape of the guitar.

These shoots worked really quiet well and I would like to try more images like these.

Christening

I recently assisted a photographer at a christening, so I was not really there to capture the main bulk of the photos but I managed to sneak a few in there where I could. I like to try and capture natural moments of interest or cuteness at events like this, I quite like the expressions in the babies face in these photos.

I also like the togetherness of the middle photo as mother and daughter sing together wearing similar coloured tops.

Black and White Colour

Ah the history brush tool is a powerful tool for all those family portrait photographers who are asked to create "funky" images. It can be used in some cool ways, these photos show that a simple photo can be given a different feel be selecting certain sections of colour.

The red and the green in the strawberry work really well and stand out distinctly with the white surrounding. Plus the amount of movement and excited poses by the model give the pictures a very playful and dynamic aspect to them.

Liu Bolin

35-year-old Liu Bolin, from Shandong, China, manages to camouflage himself in any surroundings, no matter how difficult they might be. He works on a single photo for up to ten hours!

He says his art is a protest against the actions of the Chinese Goverment, who shut his studio down in 2005, I say its flipping genius !!!!

Hollow Ponds

These photos where taken five minutes away from my house at a place called Hollow Ponds. Really I went over there to just mess around with a borrowed 450D and get some practice in an extremely sunny environment, it was a very hot and bright day. I played about a lot with shutter speed, aperture, iso's and focus settings ect. to try and get a good mix to create correctly light shots. It was actually quite difficult not to over expose certain areas whilst under exposing others.

Here we mostly have close ups of some foliage, I really like the photos of the due on the grass you get some interesting shapes and re-fractions of the light in the droplets.

Dawn - Sharks in Her Hair

This song is called ' Dawn ' it was predominately written by Dre with vocals preformed by Lee. I lent a helping hand with regards to vocals but must of the work was done by Lee and Dre. This song is probably our most evolved piece of music to date, unlike most of our stuff it has a drum line, guitar layers and a solid structure.

Again this is not the fully finished article but I do think it shows real progression and has the potential to be a very good song, seen as it shows its self to be very catchy if you listen to it a few times. So go ahead try it for yourself. . . Sorry if the volume is a bit low.

I like some of the images Spencer Tunick has created because of their awkward, rigid and freaky nature. To me the photos feel quiet uneasy in the way they are set up, especially when you have hundreds of people turning their back to the viewer making u feel like an outcast for being the only one wearing clothes.

Artist Spencer Tunick has been documenting the live nude figure in public since 1992. Since 1994 he has organized over 75 temporary site-specific installations. Individuals en masses, without their clothing, grouped together metamorphose into a new shape. The bodies extend into and upon the landscape like a substance. These grouped masses which do not underscore sexuality become abstractions that challenge or reconfigure one's views of nudity and privacy. The work also refers to the complex issue of presenting art in permanent or temporary public spaces.

Sergei Larenkov

Sergei Larenkov has created a large number of these erie photos in a exhibition of here and now. The photos are set in his home town of Saint Petersburg or Leningrad as it was know during the second world war. At that time the Nazis had laid siege to the city starving it of supplies and leaving the population to suffer hunger and the cold.

He has visited the exact sites of the original photographs to take pictures of the same place at the same angle and then superimposed the two together. I really like these pictures they create such a strong vision of the past matched with the present and really hit home how hard those times must of been.

Oh la la Paris

These are some photos that I took whilst in Paris a few years ago, I have played around a bit with the colour of all this pictures and given them an old feel resembling the warm colours of an silent movie. This colour scheme seemed fitting for the feel of Paris maybe due to its historic architecture and also in-keeping with French cinematic aesthetic, even the picture of the modern sport/dance of break dancing has a aged feel to it.

I particularly like the last photo of the male and female embracing, I'm not sure whether it has a loving feel to it or one of over empowerment. I think I question the motives of it because I found this on a larger sculpture known as 'The Gates of Hell' by Musee Rodin or for you Frenchies out there 'La Porte De L'Enfer'. It was by far my favourite piece of art work that I came across whilst in Paris.

Moon Outside My Window

This image was take from the roof just outside of my bedroom in East London. I looked out and noticed this amazing range of tones and colours a couple of days ago. I haven't had much practice with low light shots on my new camera and I unfortunately didn't have much time to play with the settings and try out lots of things, but I do like this image it has a festive feel which is fitting around this time of year.

I messed about with it in photoshop but the top image is the "truest" image, the second from top is the suggested auto from photoshop, the third has a warming orange filter and the last is quiet a sharp black and white version.

If you could see a few more stars it might make a good Christmas card but you do not get to see many of those in London due to the light pollution which is beautiful in its own way.

First Song - Distant Frowns

Ok this is my first attempt at creating my own song. I created the cord progress and most of the lyrics with help from my friend Lee, who is also the vocalist for the track. Now although I came up with it this is not actually me playing it as Im still not really smooth enough to play through a whole five minute song.

This is a completely rough version as it is recorded all in one go with Lee playing and singing continuously a bit like a live lounge I guess. There are things that still need changing and improving but it should give you an idea of how the song will sound when finished.

First electric guitar and ITS A FENDER!!

My new Fender Stratocaster 50's Classic Player is da bomb shiznik. So after buying my new acoustic a little while back and progressively getting better at playing I thought it was time for an electric guitar. I always knew I was going to have one good acoustic and one good electric but I had never really thought about what electric I was going to get. I did a lot of looking around, talking to friends and looking at what some of the bands i listen to play and eventually came up with getting a stratocaster.

Fender has always been a company that I like the sound of and that have always made quality products so I am very happy to have one of my own. I had to wait a while to order in the two tone sunburst finish but it was well worth it as I think it looks gorgeous.

Im starting to come up with a lot of my own riffs and cord progressions now so hopefully some songs on the way soon.

These are the boys head shots that I was hired to do for Allied Site Personnel Ltd website. I tried to keep a similar style and shape with each person getting to stand at a slight angle and the same distance. However I found the light levels quiet hard to control as I must admit I didn't have my own set up but a little photoshop goes a long way.

New Camera - BBQ pt1

The first photos taken on my new "well second hand" Canon 350D. Most of the photos are from a BBQ in the glorious English summer weather, with a couple of my friends and some of Dre as my bag man on a small web video shoot day.

These photos are not anything to special but they are just the start of me getting used to the camera and finding out what works well and what doesn't. A lot of my shots had soft focus which is a shame but I did expect that and hope that I will be able to focus better with practice.

These cool creations are part of a larger series produced by the Italian artist named Guido Daniele. They are pretty stunning and immediately seem to catch your eye, I really like the way you can see extreme detail in each one it obviously took a long time to paint them.

I also like art around the subject of hands even though there is a lot of it around such as numerous adverts including Apple, Guinness and the EMA adverts. Its interesting to see how we as humans put more importance on certain parts of the bodies such as the amount of art work to do with eyes, hands and sexual organs. You never seem to see any elbow art work for instance.

Moneygami

For many years I have been doing little tricks with folding money such as the shirt and the queens head pictures at the bottom of these images as well as the great happy queen sad queen trick, but some of these 'moneygami' pieces are amazing.

Its made even better when some of the animal folds actually use the notes pattern to create facial features such as eyes.

I have read that Moneygami is not a great name for this art form due to the fact that mixing the words money and origami to create moneygami does not quiet make sense. This is because in Japanese the word origami translates as ori ( to fold ) and gami ( paper ) so moneygami in a literal translation means moneypaper. There are other names for this such as money folding, note folding and banknote folding.

I want to find some tutorials on how to create these folds especial the gorilla one that is my favorite.

Typography Tests

So after seeing the Grammy Awards posters I wanted to try and create something similar, plus I haven't tried to do to much around typography.

The stuff that I made above are all just fairly simple test pieces just to show the basics of how to create an effective piece with just type. They work really quiet well and are defiantly very effective and eye-catching with a very simple style.

Because they are just test pieces the subject matter is just my name [because I am self obsessed I guess] :) with the exception of the dinosaur poster. That poster contains the definition of dinosaurs from the almighty wikipedia, I chose that topic just simply because I really like dinosaurs.

Not as good as the grammy's yet but I'll keep trying.

TBWA 51st Grammy Award Typography Art Work

I meant to publish these pieces a while ago but hey I'm doing it now. I really like these posters they look stunning. The Artists depicted gave 15 songs that influenced them to the ad agency TBWA who then created these images with them.

I am going to have to try and create similar images to these as they do look so good so hopefully I will post some up soon.

Tilt Shift Trails

Ok so after finding out about tilt shift I looked through my stock photos to try and find suitable pictures to try out the photoshop version of tilt shift.

I found some from my media trip around Grand Central and also from a time I went to Wembley stadium. You can see the effect does work on them a little bit but they are no where near as effective as some of the examples I posted before. I defiantly want to actively go out and take some photos with the purpose of making them look good when miniaturized.

So I will have to come back to this when I have a chance, hopefully soon.

Tilt Shift Photography

I have just stumbled across this photography technique called tilt shift. It is done with a specialized lens that as the name suggests tilts and shifts, this has the effect of 'shallowing' the depths of field.

All the above photos are of real life situations but look like miniature toys and there are many more examples out there. I gathered these from the following web site;

There is also another technique to gain the effect of miniaturization which does not require the use of specialized lenses. It involves blurring out certain areas of a photograph on photoshop to create a narrow line of focus. I think this technique is not quiet as effective but still looks very interesting.

The whole effect looks awesome and I really want to create some pictures like this but with out the special lenses I will try and create the photoshop verse, hopefully Ill post them up here where I complete them.

Business Card

These are the business card designs I had printed for my degree show. I designed everything except the flower which I am sure I could have done some thing very similar but due to time restrictions I chose to go with a pre drawn design.

My end product was the white front with dark lettering and the flower motif back which I photo shopped the dripping words on to. I have blacked out my contact number but drop me an email to contact me further.

Urban Alphabet

Whilst in Charleston market I came across a guy selling photographs of bits of the city that formed letter shapes which he then put together to form words. I had not seen this idea before a thought it was great and it looked really good to create short words with in frames, for example one spelt home which could be a nice picture to have in your home.

The pictures I have put on this post of the alphabets are not the ones I saw nor are they my creation but they do illustrate want I am trying to describe. I would like to create my own urban alphabet perhaps in London.

However the picture at the top which says 'ASHLEY' is mine. I went to Charleston Zoo and with the urban alphabet in my mind I decided to try and find enough letter shapes to make a word. Which I did and I think work quiet well.

Charleston 09

So I've been in America for a while now and visited Charleston which is a very pretty "historical" town in South Carolina. The city has a really good feel to it plus it is on the coast in a very sunny part of the world, the sky is so amazingly clear and blue for most of the year.

This pictures are not anything special as I did not have any good equipment on me they are more just holiday snaps, but I wanted to show just a little bit of how the place looks.

Dustbin Baby

Westfield - Shepherds Bush

Completely off of the media spectrum of work experience but I recently work as a logistic manager for Westfield to complete construction of their £1.8 billion project in Shepherds Bush West London. At the time it was Britons biggest building site and pulled in more than 10 000 workers every day.

I became a member of the logistic team due to concerns from the top management over meeting the completion dead line. I started of with over seeing all waste management in and out of the site, which I did for about 1 month until I was moved over onto the fit out delivery logistics. Again after about 1 month of doing that I was moved onto the merchandise delivery team all of which where promotions from the previous positions.

I continued with the merchandise until we made completion on time and opened the shopping centre successfully. Westfield kept me on for another 2 months after opening as a retail logistic manager until the contract for the full time positions were given to another company.

It was a very positive experience for me where I learnt a great deal by shadowing and being involved with top end meetings and discussions on such a huge project, well worth my time and ended up earning me some great savings unlike most media jobs :)

New Guitar - Ibanez AEG20E

I started to learn how to play the guitar about a year ago. I thought it to be a much more productive way of using my time while I took breaks from writing the numerous essays I was writting at the time instead of watching TV.

Now that I am just a little bit past the absolute beginner stage and knowing that I have stuck with practices and enjoy playing as a hobby I wanted to get something a bit nicer than the cheapest of the cheap guitar I originally bought. So this is what I decided on an Ibanez AEG20E even though it was not on my shortlist when initially researching, but I have grown to like it a lot and it does have many good points. The pre amp is pretty good with an in built tuner which is very handy, plus you can plug it straight into a deck with an SLR. It also kicks out a great sound considering it is a thin body but the biggest and best change is the lower action on the strings making every thing much easier to play.

All in all it was a good purchase and has made me practice even more than usual.

WerHey! I am now an official Graduate from Coventry University hopefully this photo proves it to everyone and I can now put this in my CV.

Its a good feeling to have it all over with and know that three years of hard work and growing up have amounted to something. The only worry now is where to go from here...... to be continued I guess....

Prague's Bones

The title says prague but this church with skeleton sculptures was in a little town about an hour outside of Prague. I traveled out to Prague with a film crew, of which I was a sound technician, to make a short film called "A Boy With a Kite" based on the story line of "Balloon Rouge". It consisted of 4 days filming and 48 hours of traveling on a coach, so with my spare day off I took it upon my self to go get a bit lost in the Chez Republic. I wanted to get out of the tourist scene in Prague but could go to far as I had to be able to make it back that day, so this church seemed like the idle place.

As it happened the hotel provided a taxi service to this place but I chose not to take that easy route and found my own way their on the subway then over ground train routes. I am very glad I did this even though it took a lot longer I got to see and feel what the Chez Republic was like much better, even if at times I was in some dodgy situations trying to hide my camera but still get shots of the place.

The bone church was a really interesting place and I suggest any and every one should visit.

This is a leaflet that I created for my joint run online tv station which is called popcorn not included. I am one of three directors for the business which is a space to showcase emerging talent within the film making world.

Although these are just very basic leaflets and were just to promote the website, I thought I would show them on here as proof that I have photoshop skills.

Spring in coventry

Ok these are a bit random I know but I was out with my flat mate filming a time lapse sequence for an animation he (Douglas Scott) is creating - which looks great by the way, and has a very handsome central actor..... :) - and the weather was actually nice in Coventry. I really enjoy spring time as you get to shake off the winter blues and absorb the energy that is produced by the sun, I believe this is a shared feeling as well because everyone seems to suddenly get active when spring finally arrives.

So I tried to keep the photos bright and cheery even with the grimness of the tower block in some of them I think they still achieve a feel good factor.

For the past two summers I have traveled to America to work in children's summer camps. After working for two months solid my visa allows for me to travel for the final third month and these are some of the photos from these times. I especially like the one of the seagulls and the footprints.

There are more photos to come from my travels in America once I can get my external hard drive to work again :s

New York 2008 Grand Central

All of these photos were taken within Grand Central Terminal

I organized a trip for 42 people last February to go to New York city. The purpose was to create a large number of media artifacts with a main focus on short films and documentary works. It was a lot of work trying to find the cheapest flights, cheap but good accommodation in a central location, travel to and from airports and equipment for such a large number of people but I am glad I did because we came away with some great work.

My main focus was on a documentary and these photos were taken when I had some time off from filming so they were not part of a larger project, they were just things that interested me.

I will post my films or links to my films as soon as I can, some really great shots to look forward to.

I recently went on a 4 day trip to venice for a theory module. Whilst working and walking a lot I often wondered off to take a few pictures. Some of them are very nice although it has to be said Venice is a view pretty place with plenty of nice looking things to snap.
